COMPUTER SOFTWARE
Computer software or simply software is any set of instructions that direct a computer to perform specific operations. Computer hardware and software require each other and neither can be realistically used without the other.

Software is a program that enables a computer to perform a specific task, as opposed to the physical components of the system (hardware). This includes application software such as a word processor, which enables a user to perform a task, and system software such as operating system, which enable other software to run with other software.
Software is a general term for the various kinds of programs used to operate computers and related devices.
TYPES OF COMPUTER SOFTWARE
There are two main types of software: (a) system software and (b) application software
- System software: system software includes the programs that are dedicated to manage the computer itself, such as the operating system (or DOS)
- Application software: application software, or simply applications, are often called productivity programs or end-user programs because they enable the user to complete tasks such as creating documents, spreadsheets, database etc.
