DEMONSTRATIVE PRONOUNS

DEMONSTRATIVE NOUNS

Demonstrative pronouns are used to point out or refer to specific people, objects, or locations in a sentence. They indicate the relative distance in space or time between the speaker and the thing or person being referred to. In English, there are four demonstrative pronouns: “this,” “that,” “these,” and “those.”

1. “This” is used to refer to a singular object or person that is near the speaker. For example:
– This book is interesting.
– This is my car.

2. “That” is used to refer to a singular object or person that is farther away from the speaker. For example:
– That house is beautiful.
– Who is that person?

3. “These” is used to refer to multiple objects or people that are near the speaker. For example:
– These flowers are lovely.
– These are my keys.

4. “Those” is used to refer to multiple objects or people that are farther away from the speaker. For example:
– Those birds are migrating.
– Can you pass me those papers?

Demonstrative pronouns can also be used to introduce a noun phrase. In such cases, they function as determiners. For example:
– I like these cookies.
– That dog is adorable.

It’s worth noting that the specific usage of demonstrative pronouns can vary depending on the context and the speaker’s perspective.

These pronouns include THIS, THAT, THESE, AND THOSE. They are used to point out specific persons, places, or objects.

‘THIS” and “THAT” are used for singular, while ‘THESE’ and ‘THOSE’ are used for plural. ‘THIS’ and ‘THESE’ are used for objects that are near ‘THAT’ and ‘THOSE’ are for objects that are far.

Example :

This is my sister.

These are my sisters

That is my school

Those are the goats he bought.
