Before using this medication, disclose your medical history to your doctor or pharmacist, particularly if you have a history of kidney or liver disease, mental health issues (such as depression or suicidal thoughts), a personal or family history of substance abuse, sleepwalking, lung conditions (such as COPD or sleep apnea), or a specific muscle disorder (myasthenia gravis).

The effects of this medication may persist even after awakening the next day. If you have not slept for 7 to 8 hours, have taken other medications that induce drowsiness, or are more susceptible to the effects of this drug, you may feel awake but lack the clarity of thought required for driving. You may also experience dizziness or vision disturbances. Alcohol or marijuana use can exacerbate dizziness. Refrain from driving, operating machinery, or engaging in activities requiring alertness until you are sure it is safe to do so, waiting at least 8 hours after taking the medication. This medication may also heighten the risk of falls, so avoid alcohol consumption. Discuss marijuana use with your doctor.

Children may be more vulnerable to the side effects of this medication, particularly dizziness and hallucinations.

Older adults may be more prone to the side effects of this medication, especially dizziness, confusion, unsteadiness, and excessive drowsiness, which can increase the risk of falls.

Before undergoing surgery, inform your doctor or dentist about all the products you use, including prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and herbal supplements.

During pregnancy, only use this medication if clearly necessary. Babies born to mothers who have used this drug late in pregnancy may exhibit unusual sleepiness, breathing difficulties, limpness, or withdrawal symptoms. Seek medical assistance immediately if you notice any unusual symptoms in your newborn. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

A small amount of this medication can pass into breast milk and may have adverse effects on a nursing infant, such as unusual sleepiness, breathing difficulties, or limpness. Seek medical attention if you notice any unusual symptoms in your baby. Consult your doctor about pumping and discarding breast milk during treatment and for 23 hours after taking this medication to reduce the risk of adverse effects in your baby. Seek advice from your doctor before breastfeeding.
