The Rams are finalizing a one-year contract with cornerback Tre’Davious White, potentially valuing up to $10 million.
Tre’Davious White, the esteemed two-time Pro Bowl cornerback, is embarking on a new chapter in his NFL journey, as he finds a fresh home with the Los Angeles Rams.
According to NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo, White is set to ink a one-year contract with the Rams, potentially valuing up to $10 million, as disclosed by a source on Tuesday.
This acquisition holds significant weight for the Rams, especially as they recalibrate their defensive strategy following Aaron Donald’s retirement. For White, it represents a chance to rejuvenate his career, once marked by promising ascent.
White, 29, commenced his NFL voyage with the Buffalo Bills in 2017, swiftly emerging as a standout contender for Rookie of the Year. Notably, his pinnacle was reached in 2019, leading the league with six interceptions, securing an All-Pro distinction, and clinching his maiden Pro Bowl nod. Subsequently, he earned another Pro Bowl selection the subsequent season, solidifying his prowess.
However, adversity struck in the form of injuries. His promising trajectory was impeded by setbacks, notably an ACL tear on Thanksgiving in 2021, followed by a devastating Achilles injury in 2023. Consequently, White’s appearances dwindled over the past three seasons, leading to his departure from Buffalo in March amid a series of roster cuts.
Now, White sets his sights on a resurgence in Los Angeles. He joins forces with Cobie Durant and the newly-signed Darious Williams to fortify a secondary unit that ranked 20th in passing yards allowed last season.
White boasts an impressive career tally of 18 interceptions, complemented by 63 passes defensed, five forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, and a defensive touchdown. Undoubtedly, his talent remains undeniable; it’s the recent injury setbacks that have veered him off course.
