Precautions

Refer to the Warning section for further information.

Prior to initiating aripiprazole treatment, inform your healthcare provider or pharmacist of any known allergies to it or other substances. This product may contain inactive ingredients, such as propylene glycol, which could trigger allergic reactions or other complications. Consult your pharmacist for additional information.

Before using this medication, disclose your medical history to your doctor or pharmacist, particularly any issues related to blood flow in the brain (such as cerebrovascular disease or stroke), diabetes (including family history), heart conditions (such as low blood pressure, coronary artery disease, heart failure, or irregular heartbeat), nervous system disorders (such as dementia, NMS, or seizures), obesity, low white blood cell count (including previous instances caused by medication), swallowing difficulties, or sleep-related breathing disorders (such as sleep apnea).

This medication may induce dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision. Consumption of alcohol or marijuana (cannabis) may exacerbate these effects. Refrain from driving, operating machinery, or engaging in activities requiring alertness or clear vision until you can do so safely. Avoid alcoholic beverages and consult your doctor if you are using marijuana (cannabis).

Use caution with this medication as it may decrease sweating, increasing the risk of heat stroke. Avoid activities that could lead to overheating, such as strenuous work or exercise in hot weather, or using hot tubs. Stay hydrated and dress lightly in hot weather. Seek a cool environment and rest if you experience overheating, and seek medical attention promptly if you develop persistent fever, changes in mental state, headache, or dizziness.

Liquid formulations of this medication may contain sugar, so use caution if you have diabetes. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for guidance on safe use.

Older adults may be more susceptible to side effects, including seizures, drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, confusion, tardive dyskinesia, swallowing difficulties, and other serious (though rarely fatal) adverse reactions. Exercise caution as these effects can increase the risk of falls. Inform your healthcare provider of all medications, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and herbal products, prior to undergoing surgery.

During pregnancy, only use this medication when absolutely necessary. Babies born to mothers who have used this drug during the final trimester of pregnancy may exhibit rare symptoms such as muscle stiffness or tremors, drowsiness, feeding or breathing difficulties, or excessive crying. Notify your doctor immediately if you observe any of these symptoms in your newborn, especially during the first month.

Given the severity of untreated mental health conditions such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, do not discontinue this medication without medical guidance. If you are considering pregnancy, are pregnant, or suspect you may be pregnant, discuss the benefits and risks of using this medication with your doctor.

This medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
