Post-Abortion Recovery Guidelines

Following your surgical or medical abortion, it’s advisable to prioritize rest. Typically, you can resume your regular activities, including work, the day after, if you feel up to it. However, refrain from engaging in vigorous exercise or movements that cause discomfort during the initial days.

In case your healthcare provider has prescribed pain medication, such as narcotics, refrain from driving for at least 8 hours. If you received IV drugs during the procedure, it’s recommended to abstain from driving for a full day.

Many physicians advise waiting at least 2-3 weeks before engaging in sexual activity or inserting anything into the vagina, especially after a surgical procedure.

Your doctor may prescribe medication to manage bleeding or minimize the risk of infection. It’s crucial to adhere to the prescribed dosage and instructions.

Ensure to attend all scheduled follow-up appointments. For those who underwent a medical abortion, the doctor will assess to confirm the completion of the abortion process.
